The 30-Second Avocado Test

The stem test:

• Flick off the small stem cap at the top


• If it's green underneath — perfectly ripe, buy it


• If it's brown underneath — overripe, skip it


• If the stem won't come off — not ripe yet, buy it for later

Speed ripening: Put the avocado in a paper bag with a banana. Ready in 1-2 days.
Slow it down: Already ripe? Put it in the fridge whole. Buys you 3-4 extra days.
